We Keep on Marching ….

Posted on May 13th, 2010 by Adrienne Osborn

flagI got kind of bummed that Jon wasn’t able to call on Mothers’ Day.  Yeah well, I guess that’s how it is.  I’m still slightly peeved, but I will get over it; I always do.  To my delight, both the girls made it through a full week of school (it is a miracle) and let me tell you it felt great!!!  Vannah has a slight head cold, but knock on wood, no signs of an ear infection (I love tubes).

I think this week I’m just generally thankful that my husband is still okay.  I know one out of six families has suffered some losses and my heart breaks for those mothers, wives, and children.  I can’t begin to imagine the sorrow and grief that they must be going through.  I’m just thankful that we have so much and that thus far, Jon is OK.  I do feel more “on edge” this week and when things like this happen I get really anxious.  No news is good news, though.

Sometimes I do get frustrated and overwhelmed but quite honestly, it really truly makes the time pass by so much more quickly.  I feel like I blinked and this past week was gone!  There isn’t really even a dent in my to-do list from the past week.  I still have to mow the lawn, weed it, touch up the paint in the bedroom, clean the disaster area I call a garage, blah blah blah. :)

I wouldn’t trade it for anything.  Well, off to fold another load of laundry then pass out in bed.  Not much longer and I’ll actually have to kick Oreo and Dunkin off the bed so Jon will have a spot!

How are the rest of you holding up?

snowmanI’ll admit it: I was more excited than a 6-year-old because of the snow this past weekend!

Since I was born in the north, this weekend’s weather was a welcome taste of home!  We had a blast being outside.  There are really no hills around the neighborhood, so it’s not like we could sled, but we did have other great fun.

First came the snow angels.  The girls thought this was the best thing since sliced bread.  I think my whole backyard is covered in them.  Mal and Vannah also had some serious snowball fighting fun.  Vannah ended up with some hurt feelings because she got snow down her coat and shirt.  Nonetheless, all three of us had a great time.  We also had fun building out snowman, Frosty, who has already melted.  There was some sadness surrounding the whole melting of Frosty, but everyone is cool with it - at the moment.

Next, my favorite part came; the snow fort.  Well, there wasn’t really enough for a full fledged fortress but we still had a blast!!  Even in the winter, it’s great to be outdoors.  Now that I’m thinking about it, there are some great winter activities around here that I’d love to try.  The western part of the state has skiing, which I haven’t done in years.  I think the girls would absolutely adore it, so that’s on the list for next year.  In addition, camping in the winter would be great … and just think … no bugs!!!!!  I’d also like to take our family farther north and try snow tubing.  I don’t know if you’ve ever done it, but it is an absolute blast!!

Just because it’s the dead of winter doesn’t mean we have to be trapped inside.  It’s still a great time to get out and get some fresh air.  Might I add that the girls slept like babies!!!

What kind of fun did you and your family have this weekend? Please share in the comment box below.

And the Deployment Continues …

CSL2064Well, it’s been crazy.

Two Fridays ago, Vannah got sent home with an ear infection.  We got her seen and taken care of and last Sunday I came down with a norovirus.   I also had to go get Mal a new set of shoes in the mean time, because she lost a single shoe, and had none to wear to school.  I haven’t been that sick in years; I honestly wondered if I had Ebola.

I actually broke down and went to the emergency room this past Monday (haven’t been to an ER since 2003.)  Then Wednesday, Mallory got sent home from school with a fever.  Perfect timing considering the fact that my clients needed to be in their home by Friday.  Somehow though, it fell together.  Mallory’s fever finally went away on Saturday.  I’m now waving the white flag of surrender.

I am slowly but surely developing a phobia; I’m going to start bathing in hand sanitizer.  Honestly, at this point at time, a  few  months in an a desolate desert seems rather refreshing.  As a matter of fact, my house is rather reminiscent of a minefield at this point in time.  I broke down and hired someone to come in and clean on Tuesday.

My husband Jon called.  Of course he called as I was having an exorcist-like bout.  He has impeccable timing.  I could really use his backup help right now.  I wouldn’t have complained about the Hamburger Helper like concoction that he makes; it would have been nice to not have to make dinner.  I’ll be completely honest, because I know there are others out there that feel like I do; it has been one of those times where I laugh so I can fight back the tears. I’m soooo going out for a couple drinks with my girls when he gets back.

Most importantly though, I ask for your prayers as my husband’s unit lost two Marines since I last blogged.  Sgt. Daniel Angus and LCpl.  Zachary Smith, we will never forget.
